The Emergency Informatics Association is a coalition organized to spread a common vision and mission. The following is directly from our Charter:
Vision
The Emergency Informatics Association recognizes the necessity of consistent informatics modeling for emergency care. Patient safety, quality of care, efficient pre-hospital and ED workflow, and the work environment itself, will be the principle beneficiaries of creation and implementation of common, but functionally separate, models for data (common information model) and for systems (functional model-profile). This sort of modeling is fundamental to seamless collection, transmission, and accessing patient information from initial contact through triage, transport, treatment and disposition, as well as to simplified, scalable, interoperable, and universally adoptable information systems.
Mission Statement
To propose, track, publish, and promote projects in the Emergency Informatics domain in support of the EIA vision. To assist existing organizations that encounter technical issues in the Emergency Informatics space, and to facilitate communication and coordination among them. To ensure these projects and organizations keep sight of the underlying primary principles of enhancing patient care, safety, workflow, and work environment.
Who participates in the EIA?
The Emergency Informatics Association consists of three types of members:
1) Users
The EIA is a place for users of ED Information Systems to learn, communicate, and to understand the issues of Emergency Informatics.
2) Product Developers
Developers of ED systems benefit from collaboration among themsleves on obstacles they have in common.
3) Organizations
Using the Association, organizations communicate their needs to a focussed network of experts and better shape their goals and improve their own work products.
How is the EIA Organized?
In short, volunteer work groups comprise the EIA. Each work group is dedicated to work products which are mostly shepherded by membership organizations or members thereof. Workgroup membership is maintained by signing up for the mailing list associated with the respective workgroup. Work groups are facilitated by an oversight committee which is led by two bi-annually elected presidents. The oversight committee may be joined by joining the high-volume oversight mailing list.
