Dashboards in Emergency Department 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Is anyone aware of an ED using a real-time electronic dashboard to monitor and improve ED throughput.

you might want to post this to the all members mailing list. I'm not sure how many people read the forums.

I guess it depends what you mean by dashboard. In the strictest sense, I am not aware of a standalone product that does this

The header to my patient list has a list of number of people in my zone, number of people in the whole ED, and number in the waiting room. I wish it would say number awaiting beds upstairs, average current length of stay, and automatically highlight which patients appear to have anything pending. If I sat down and thought it through, I'd have a lot more requests.

On a related note, we have a system that has hospital write most of the configuration (not a BoB where the knowledge is already in there), so we had to decide on each data element that would be on the board with no suggestions from the company (atleast ones that were any good.) So, I made our analysts buy this book on dashboard design: http://www.amazon.com/Information-Dashboard-Design-Effective-Communication/dp/0596100167 . It was one of the best decision I made. They are smart nurses, but not trained informaticians. They definitely didn't know anything aboug visualization of quantitative information (I should have made them buy Tufte, too.)
