There exists a broad knowledge base required to perform well in Emergency Informatics. The fact that it is ever changing and requires expertise in two fields that are so distinct necessitates some element of formal education or at least some dedicated mentoring and hand-holding. We hope you find the following resources useful.

PaACEP isEDIS conference: (http://www.isedis.com) The annual isEDIS conference has long been held as the standard in sources of Emergency Informatics education. It focuses on the underlying principles of choosing and installing an ED system. There is an associated vendor show where around 20 vendors show their software and do demonstrations. (Some argue that this is the most valuable part of the conference.) The web site sometimes has Powerpoint presentations from those who gave talks which serve as a good example of what you might learn.

ACEP/AMIA 10x10 Emergency Informatics Transition Course: This course will be taught in Summer and Fall 2008 via a web based lectures. It will finalize with a day-long pre-conference meeting held day before ACEP Scientific Assembly in Chicago. (http://www.amia.org/10x10/partners/acep/ http://www.acep.org/cme.aspx?id=36156)

EIA Forums and Mailing Lists: After becoming a member, you can post to and browse these resources where you will find significant expertise and directions from your peers.

Traditional Graduate Level Course work: (http://www.amia.org/informatics/acad&training/) AMIA maintains a list of places that provide informatics education and training. You will probably find a location nearby. Some have distance courses available.

Recommended Texts: We welcome your suggestions as we update this list.
